Who is Tiger Woods?

Tiger Woods is a professional golfer who became a sensational face of golf. He grabbed numerous records and the title of the top-ranked golfer in the world for the greatest total number of weeks in history. Instead of enumerating his multiple achievements, let’s tell you a story, Tiger
Woods’ story!

Kultida was a beautiful girl who lived within the enigmatic natural creation, we call Thailand. She was living her normal life but little did she know that everything was about to change. In 1968, she met a U.S. Army officer, named Earl Woods, who piqued her interest. They fell in love and got married.

They both had a lot in common as they both had mixed ethnicities to their credit. Kultida left her ancestral homeland to be with the man she fell in love with. Earl had two sons and a daughter from his first marriage and she embraced them as her own.

Fast forward to December 30, 1975, Earl and Kultida Woods were blessed with a beautiful baby boy (the hero of our story) in Cypress, California. Kultida named him Eldrick, as it begins with Earl’s “E” and ends with Kultida’s “K”. Later, he was nicknamed “Tiger’ to honor a colonel friend of his father who was popularly known as Tiger.

Being a single-digit handicap amateur golfer, Earl Woods introduced Tiger to golf before the age of two. Imagine a small boy hitting a ball with his small golf club! Adorable, right? This adorable little boy turned out to be a child prodigy. As a member of the military, Earl had playing privileges at the Navy golf course beside the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. This allowed Tiger to play there and surprise everyone with his skills.

It is impossible to understand how Tiger Woods became a dominant force in golf without having a look at his career.

What Does His Career Look Like?

Tiger Wood’s Golf career started way earlier than you can believe. He became popular for his Golf skills before he even turned 3. It was due to his growing popularity that Tiger made a television appearance on The Mike Douglas Show when he was around 3 years old. In the show, he putted against comedian Bob Hope.

Early Years
By age 3, he was playing better than many adults at the Navy golf course. Do you know popular you had to be to appear on shows like Golf Digest and That’s Incredible on ABC during the early 80s? Tiger appeared on these shows when he was only 5 years old.

The Junior World Golf Championships
At the Junior World Golf Championships in 1984, he won 9-10 boys’ events available for the youngest age group. He was only eight years old at the time. He even broke 80 for the first time at the same age and broke 70 at the age of 12, and that too, on a regulation golf course. After this, there was no turning back. He won the Junior World Championships six times in his career, and 4 of them were his consecutive wins from the year 1988 to 1991.

The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship
Starting at the age of 15, Tiger Woods became U.S. Junior Amateur for 3 consecutive years. To date, he is the only player who is a three-time winner.
His achievements during his childhood and early teen years brought a lot of fame and recognition to him. Woods’s performance was so good that he was named Golfweek National Amateur of the Year, Golf Digest Amateur Player of the Year, and Golf World Player of the Year. Tiger won three consecutive U.S. Amateur titles[56] and won the NCAA individual golf championship at the age of 20, before turning professional on August 20, 1996.

Professional Career
As soon as he turned professional, he got the highest paying endorsement contracts in the history of golf from brands like Titleist and Nike. In the Official World Golf Ranking of 1997, he set the record for the fastest ascent to No. 1. He won his first major, the 1997 Masters, and three PGA Tour events.

Woods broke or tied 9 tournament records in the U.S. Open in 2000 and has many records to his credit. He remained the top-ranked golfer from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 consecutive weeks). Then, he attained the top rank in June 2005 and maintained it till October 2010 (281 consecutive weeks). His career suffered thereafter due to multiple injuries and personal problems. However, this man rose every time and fought with all his might. He won the PGA Player of the Year title 11 times, setting a record. He won 18 World Golf Championships and became the fourth golfer to receive
the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

This was the story of the golf champion we know as Tiger Woods. A small boy who mesmerized the whole world with his game.
